The cross in Eastern Christianity has a complex history with surprizing variety and symbology.
"The Holy Cross has illuminated, and it decorated the sky with stars and showed everything like the sun!" ~ from Ethiopian Orthodox blessing at Meskel
"No longer does the flaming sword guard the gate of Eden, for a marvelous quenching is come upon it, even the Tree of the Cross." ~ from Greek Orthodox Kontakion
Is this a Siberian Orthodox cross, or simply a Russian Orthodox cross in Siberia?
ReplyDeleteAs I understand, the Siberian Orthodox Church is a self governing church and this photo was taken outside one of their churches. That being said, I am not entirely sure that there is any difference in practices between their church and the Russian Orthodox Church.
ReplyDeleteThere's no Siberian Orthodox Church. There are dioeceses od Russian Orthodox Church in Siberia which is integral part of Russian Federation
